Black-tailed jackrabbits at Piedras Marcadas

I went hiking at Piedras Marcadas Canyon again today and saw two jackrabbits.

They were just like this, with the black ear tips and black tails.

They would sit really still for a while before moving!

I often see people doing strange things in Albuquerque.

Today I saw two young men (maybe 18) walking on McMahon Boulevard with Burger King hats on their heads.

Luis Tapia at Albuquerque Art Museum

I saw an interesting piece by Luis Tapia at the art museum today.

Here's some info on him:

It is really true that because of its isolation until the 20th century, New Mexico is very unique in many ways!

Nice afternoon hike at Piedras Marcadas (marked rocks) Canyon

If you can believe it, this is just about 10 minutes from where I live. and free! Some people were walking dogs here. Very peaceful.

Roadrunner making a dash for it at Petroglyphs

I saw this bird in the shrubs. He hesitated and then decided to cross the road very quickly!

Free Cuban music from Havana Son at Albuquerque Art Museum

I showed up for the music at 2pm and was pleased to realize that the entire museum was free for anyone who shows up between 2 and 5pm every Saturday. It's also free on Sundays before 1pm.

Also free music! Some people were doing salsa dancing.

They had some great art in a New Mexico theme exhibit.

They have free music in the summers, too.

New Mexico Tech ads

NM Tech has some cheeky billboard ads.

I saw one in November that said: "New Mexico Tech: Where the smart kids go."

Wow, so we are doing this?

I saw one today that read, "Get your degree from New Mexico Tech ... or work for the one who did."

Wow, someone gave them some license with their ad campaign! I guess anything goes here.

I also saw a billboard on Paseo del Norte that says simply, "Hurt? Call Bert" (with a giant picture of lawyer, Bert). There was another ad about alcohol poisoning that seriously had one of those fonts you see in Halloween ads.

Reasons Albuquerque is underappreciated

My boyfriend found this excellent post on city-data about Albuquerque:

I couldn't agree more!
